Scientific and Professional Focus of the Program

The learning objectives of the MSc Dairy Cattle Management are an upgraded continuation of the topics of the Department of Animal Sciences. Based on scientific developments and the needs of the market, the topics covered by the specific MSc are those refer to the management of dairy cows, namely: Nutrition, Breeding and Genetic Selection, Reproduction, and Dairy Farm Management.

 

MSc objectives

  1. the deepening and promotion of knowledge in the topic of Animal Science.
  2. the specialization of animal scientists in the acquisition and application of knowledge regarding the holistic management of dairy cows, with an emphasis on the management of nutrition, reproduction, genetic selection, health and the application of new technologies.
  3. the preparation of specialized and capable executives for employment in public and private sector bodies that will promote the development of cattle farming and the economy in general.
  4. the cultivation and promotion of agricultural science, in the elevation and promotion of the agricultural profession and in dealing with and solving problems related to the science of animal production in relation to the environment.
  5. the preparation of young scientists and researchers for doctoral level studies, both at the University of Thessaly and other Universities in Greece or abroad.

 

The MSc Addressed to

Graduates of Higher Education Institutes (HEI; Universities and Technological Educational Institutes) of the country and abroad may apply to the MSc, and in particular graduates of the following disciplines:

  1. Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, Agricultural Sciences, Environmental and other relevant discipline.
  2. Graduates of other HEI with relevance to the subject of the specific MSc which, on a case-by-case basis, are evaluated by the Graduate Student Selection Committee.

 

Program Description

The language of all courses as well as the preparation of the Master thesis is English. During their studies, postgraduate students are required to attend postgraduate courses, participate in all educational and research activities and prepare a postgraduate thesis.

The Study Program is completed by attending 60 ECTS in two semesters. The first semester corresponds to a workload of 30 ECTS, that corresponds to 6 learning modules of 5 ECTS each. The second semester of studies corresponds to a workload of 30 ECTS, in which students are required to prepare their research MSc thesis.

The first semester consists of 3 study cycles of two months duration. In each study cycle, one course will be held in the morning (9-12:00) and the other in the afternoon (13-16:00), from Monday to Friday.

Each one-semester course will be carried out by attending lectures live or remotely in special cases, preparing assays, visiting companies, public organizations, but also domestic institutions. The courses are supported with the eclass platform of the University of Thessaly (the https://eclass.uth.gr/), as well as with the provided educational material. Teaching and exams are done in English.

Admission Requirements

Graduates of Higher Education Institutes (HEI; Universities and Technological Educational Institutes) of the country and abroad may apply to the MSc, and in particular graduates of the following disciplines:

  1. Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, Agricultural Sciences, Environmental and other relevant discipline.
  2. Graduates of other HEI with relevance to the subject of the specific MSc which, on a case-by-case basis, are evaluated by the Graduate Student Selection Committee.

Tuition Fees and Scholarships

The total tuition fees of the MSc program are 3,800 € and may be paid in three (3) installments: 1st with the registration (800 €), 2nd before the start of the 1st semester (1,500 €) and 3rd before the start of 2nd semester (1,500 €).

It is planned to grant excellence scholarships to postgraduate students as follows:

One (1) scholarship to the student who will complete the highest grade (minimum 8.00) in the 1st semester, which is equivalent to a 50% exemption of tuition fees, i.e. a value of €1,900.

One (1) scholarship to the student who will complete the highest grade (minimum 8.00) in the 2nd semester, which is equivalent to a 50% exemption of tuition fees, i.e. a value of €1,900.
